Hank Aaron, the Milwaukee Braves 24-year-old right fielder, put himself in the spotlight last week making him the clear-cut choice for National League Player of the Week honors.
He ripped 14 hits in 31 at-bats, compiling a .452 average with 1 home run and 6 RBIs.
This year Aaron has hit at a .322 pace and produced 105 RBIs, 23 home runs and scored 88 runs. |  | AL Names Top Player of the Week Monday, September 22nd, 1958: At the age of 30, Nellie Fox might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Chicago second baseman put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .526 batting average. For his efforts Fox collected the American League Player of the Week Award.
He racked up 10 hits in 19 at-bats, no home runs and 2 RBIs last week in 5 games.
This year Fox is batting .342 with 204 hits, no home runs, 62 RBIs, 49 walks, .402 OBP and has scored 76 runs. |  | Pirates Whitewashed by Sanford Sunday, September 21st, 1958: Jack Sanford pitched a strong game in blanking the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-0, allowed no runs on 5 hits, totaled 2 strikeouts and gave up no walks.
The Philadelphia manager said he could tell right away it was going to be a good game for Sanford. "Right from the start, you could see how economical he was," he said. "He threw a lot of strikes."
