Monday, June 11th, 1962: There's nothing like being in the prime of your baseball career -- and playing like it. Just ask Ernie Banks, the Chicago shortstop, who swung a sweet bat all week to not only aid his team, but also pick up the National League Player of the Week honors.
Banks piled up 12 hits in 25 at-bats, 2 home runs and 10 RBIs while hitting .480.
Batting .316 to date, Banks has 19 home runs and 55 RBIs. |

Monday, June 11th, 1962: At the age of 31, Jerry Lynch might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Los Angeles right fielder put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .556 batting average. For his efforts Lynch collected the American League Player of the Week Award.
He racked up 10 hits in 18 at-bats, 5 home runs and 6 RBIs last week in 5 games.
Currently Lynch is batting .372 with 12 home runs and 38 RBIs. |
 | McCovey Ups Hit Streak to 25 Consecutive Games
Sunday, June 10th, 1962: Willie McCovey extended his consecutive-game hitting streak to 25 games today in the Kansas City 4-1 triumph over the Minnesota Twins. The 24-year-old Athletics first baseman collected 2 hits in 4 at-bats.
Willie McCovey singled in the 1st, tripled in the 3rd, struck out in the 5th and struck out in the 7th.
This season McCovey is batting .369 with 89 hits, 26 home runs, 58 RBIs, .467 OBP and has scored 56 runs. |
