Monday, June 11th, 1962: Ray Barker burst onto the Sub League 2 stage in a big way last week. This promising rookie left fielder for Greensboro garnered everyone's respect by putting up some remarkable numbers and picking up the Player of the Week trophy.
The 26-year-old haunted opposing pitchers hitting .310 (9-29) with 4 home runs and 7 RBIs last week.
For the year Barker has hit at a .340 clip with 50 RBIs, 15 home runs and 39 runs scored. |

Monday, June 11th, 1962: 24-year-old Purnal Goldy made a few Hialeah headlines during this past week as the rookie first baseman proved he could compete at the plate with his high-school idols. He captured the attention of fans, journalists and Sub League 1 officials last week and today took home Player of the Week honors for his effort.
He cracked 14 hits in 28 at-bats to put up a .500 average. Goldy collected 1 home run, 4 RBIs and scored 3 runs.
Thus far in 1962 Goldy is hitting .338 with 9 home runs, 35 RBIs, 32 runs scored and has compiled a .415 OBP. |
